Marlis Bruns, M.A., evaluates individuals for the purpose of assessing future employability and wage-earning capacity and has testified in over 120 family law matters since 2001.  She has qualified as a court expert in all surrounding Bay Area counties as well as out-of-area and out-of-state jurisdictions. She is a Diplomat with the American Board of Vocational Experts and a Founding Member of Bay Area Vocational Experts. She conducts diagnostic interviews to understand an individual’s background, education and work experience, interprets vocational test results to identify transferable work skills, aptitudes, values and interests, and draws vocational conclusions and findings supported by documented data, primary and secondary research, including minimum qualifications, earnings averages, and, when applicable, timeframe estimates to reach stated objectives.

Marlis joined her mother, Susan Stevenson, to form Stevenson and Bruns in 2001, and they worked together until Susan’s retirement in 2008. Susan started her practice in 1984, after completing her graduate degree in Vocational Rehabilitation from CSU East Bay. Susan was a founding member of Bay Area Vocational Evaluators, an active member of the American Board of Vocational Experts, a Certified Career Counselor, and one of the most experienced evaluators in the Bay Area in her time.

With over 15 years of dedicated service, Deb Miller is an integral part of our team at Stevenson and Bruns. Beginning her tenure with us as a part-time stay at home parent, she has moved into a full time role in the consulting practice.

Prior to joining Stevenson and Bruns, Deb held a pivotal role as the Director of Human Resources at a local nonprofit organization, where she worked for seven years and helped grow the organization from 40 employees to over 150 employees.

Deb holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from UC Santa Barbara, bringing an understanding of human behavior and empathy to her current role at Stevenson and Bruns. Known for her attention to detail and editing skills, she continues to bring sensitivity and organization to the daily operations of Stevenson and Bruns.
